Moody Gardens Convention Center
Galveston, TX

The Glass Ribbons were made to represent the four elements in nature: water, wind, earth and fire. Each ribbon is 150 feet long and varies in height from 3 feet to 6 feet. The bent laminated glass is carved, painted and suspending from a bent metal channel frame. Fiber optic lighting is incorporated in the top edge of the glass illuminating the deep carving. At the center of each spiraling glass ribbon hangs lighted sculptural glass pieces that depict the elements. The ribbons appear to be floating in air and create a stunning feature in the Convention Center Lobby Area.

In addition to the glass ribbons Savoy had the opportunity to show our range in material use with the creation of six metal wall art panels. These panels refer to the elements and are made from three different metals, fused glass and semi-precious stones. The metal was cut into shapes, textured and then given a patina for a three dimensional look. Each panel was 6 feet wide by 6 feet high with two panels at 12 feet wide by 6 feet high.

Savoy also created major art features in the Ball Rooms, restaurants, and spa area.
