Portland, ORThis is an example of the complete transformation of a building, including extensive structural and architectural changes, all aimed at changing a Days Inn into a sleek, stylish, modern, urban hotel. Every part of the building was modified; all 174 rooms were updated, the parking lot was transformed into an elegant courtyard, an elevated garden was created and the lobby was completely redone.
Adding to the challenge was the deadline of being open for Rose Festival, which required that the work be complete within six months. Beginning work in the Fall, this meant that the job had to be accomplished during the typical Portland winter of cool temperatures and daily rain. By shrink-wrapping and heating the entire building we were able to complete the exterior and interior work at the same time. The result was an award winning building that was finished on schedule and within the budget.
